In 2009, the economic downturn delayed and even killed many development projects throughout the St. Louis area. One delayed project, the construction of the new Shriners Hospital, is now ready to resume.
Shriners Hospital is set to begin construction on their new, six-story, 247,000 square foot building in late 2010 at a site just two blocks east of it’s original location. Built in1924, Shriners Hospital remained in the city for 39 years until it moved to its current location in Frontenac, MO in 1963.
John O’Shaughnessy, hospital administrator, had this to say about the move…
“The closer Shriners Hospitals for Children is to the resources of the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, as well as the other facilities of BJC HealthCare, the more effective we can be in providing care to our children and more fully collaborate in research and education.”
The new hospital will be only one block from Forest Park Southeast and has the potential to become another great anchor for the neighborhood. To read more about the future development, click here.
